A little background on the site

What's Behind the Window? is a free browser-based jump scare prank. There's no app to install and no account to create — you open the page, click the curtain open, and see what's waiting behind the glass. It's built to be handed to someone else's screen (or sprung on your own) in a matter of seconds.

What's actually behind the curtain

Every visit pulls from a large pool of possible scares — nearly 90 emoji-based pop-ups, almost 40 hand-drawn monster faces, and optional GIF or video scares — combined with randomized timing, entrance animations, and sound cues. Sometimes the scare hits the instant the curtain opens; other times it waits a beat, or fakes you out with a second pop-up right behind the first. The goal is that no two peeks behind the window feel exactly the same, even if you've played before.

Why we built it

Jump scare pranks are usually buried in ad-heavy apps or require a download most people won't bother with. We wanted something instant: a real link you can send a friend, drop in a group chat, or pull up on someone's phone, that does its job the moment the page loads.

The window itself

The frame you see is a real photographed window, not an illustration — we processed the image so its glass panes are genuinely transparent, letting the background scene (and the scares) show through naturally rather than sitting on top of a flat graphic.
